Doing a connection from LHR on a legacy carrier. BT does have a nonstop from LGW and W6 (which I wouldn’t bother with for similar reasons) goes from LTN.

Ryanair’s rules make it impossible to bring a properly sized and paid for carry on that’s about 15-20kg without paying several times the cost of the original booking including extras. The new ticket costs less than the likely weight penalties.
