Sprint's add-on plan requires you to have a qualifying account to use it. WhatsApp and the like require both caller and receiver to have accounts.

Instead, I've used a VOIP service called OneSuite since the late 90s to call all over the world at pretty cheap rates. Always clear connections, and super easy to use by just punching in your "card" number.
