To repeat, the Manchester Hyatt and Andaz have no availability January 2-6 and even if you were to get a room at the guaranteed rate (IIRC $795 per night for a base level room at the GH Manchester), you will find yourself surrounded by a huge group, resulting in long lines to check in and use elevators, very slow room service, full hotel restaurants with bad service due to the pressure of sheer numbers, etc. It will be a miserable experience for someone who isn't part of the group of 10,000+ visitors to San Diego for a convention. Don't do it.
It also wont be pleasant for the 10k economists! The lines are always insanely long at the hotel restaurants/cafes at ASSA. Im assuming itll be worse than Atlanta given the smaller selection of hotels.
The Andaz surprisingly had plenty of availability as of a few weeks ago.
