Cool Why do some 2pm flights from CA to DFW get dinner, and some just snack?

I fly from California to Dallas, and connect home to the East Coast at least 3 or 4 times a month on American, usually in First. But does any one know why flights that leave at identical times with similar mileage only get a snack, while others get mid-con dinners? For example, the 2:34pm (ballpark) from SNA to DFW gets a simple snack with cheese and crackers, while the 2:38pm (ballpark) from OAK/SMF/SFO get the midcon dinner...

Doesn't this seem a little bizarre to some?
