Thank you for the encouragement, I went back and was able to get a card. I tried to use it at the aLoft I am staying at and they said they don't take gift cards. I wonder how prevalent that is.
It wasn't that long ago, that many legacy Marriott properties didn't know how to apply Marriott gcs as payment for your room bill.
It happened so often, that I actually wrote down the steps/key entries to help clueless FD agents apply the gcs.
