You’ll have the most problems at legacy SPG properties as Starwood never had gift cards and the Marriott gift cards are not intuitive. It’s not a question of just swiping the card. When I’ve redeemed them at Marriott properties, the agent taps away for 5 mins to process the card.
I had one hotel that couldn’t figure out how to do it and I told them to skip it. Next day, the Mgr emailed me to apologize and deposited 7500 pts in my account!
