For a chain that tries to act so hip, cool, and relevant, you'd think they would be eager to enable NFC.
Maybe they're using different systems in different regions for whatever reason? Not to mention the significant franchise population.

Sure, but how much remaining life do those pumps have? Are they going to need to tear them out in like 5 years anyway, EMV or not? If the latter's true, might as well do everything at once (especially considering how slim margins are in the petroleum industry).
Also, there are some (like Chevron) that are apparently standardizing on one setup. This very well may be forcing replacements too.
