AC 7 YVR-HKG October 2019
I checked the menus for my flights as listed on AC.com and the options were all no-go for me, both the appetizers and the main meals.
I ordered
Vegetarian Oriental. Despite the fact that AC lists it as an option on its list of Special Meals, it does NOT exist and this is based on my experiences on a series of AC 15 flights as well las the recent AC 7. I had noted that they have what seems to be 1 basic vegetarian meal to which they may add a select "relevant" item. Or not. On a previous AC 15, I had posted a photo of the mid flight snack for the Vegetarian Oriental meal (which of course it was not), and it was a wrap. The wrapper listed a number of the vegetarian meals for which it was to be served/added.
I had also previously posted photos of the Vegetarian Oriental meals ex-YYZ as offered by CX, that were exactly Vegetarian Oriental.
One of the biggest issues with AC's vegetarian meals is some parts are edible, many are not and have ingredients that are not what should be for those meals.
I have no idea whether it was AC setting the budget per meal at $2.00 or the catering company finding the contents. I know what the cost is for white rice, chick peas and sauce.
For this flight, this is what was offered for the main meal
This salad was very nice. Bonus points for AC.
This was the hot meal portion. Once again, white rice. It was a ratatouille of some sort. There were a couple of pieces of eggplant, zucchini, peppers, chick peas or lentils, all in a tomato sauce. It was not Vegetarian Oriental.
The tray also came with this fruit and a roll in cellophane which I did not eat.
I forgot to ask to see if there was a mid-flight snack and the crew didn't mention it, so no photo.
For the pre-arrival meal, the offering was, once again, the same white rice, but the hot portion was a mush of something with yellow curry which I cannot eat. I did not take a photo.
I understand AC might not care about all of the SPMLs they have, or maybe it's just the caterer fills the bowls with white rice and mush based on AC's budget.
If someone orders Vegetarian Oriental, they do not want Asian Vegetarian. I am not sure why AC has so much difficulty understanding this.
And yes, I had a cereal bar with me as that is the advice some of us have given other pax in this thread.
I was also offered some items from the regular cheese, fruit and dessert trolley and I will post those in the other thread.
Consider this post another data point for the thread.
