I found that you will have to search everyday and hope something shows up.
Make sure you search for 2 awards, because you come across an award when looking for just one to see if you can find any space and then when you go back and search for 2 its no longer there (speaking from experience)
but on a brighter note was about to find awards this summer, 5 days out to Europe in J.

Also consider flying into any city that AA flies too, within Europe you can pretty much get to where you want to go via their excellent train service.
