With the new higher AF coming and loss of RDM boost, I will almost certainly downgrade/cancel this year. Currently at around 45k spend through the year and have received one reserve boost. Unlikely that I'll hit 60k/boost #2 . If I downgrade to platinum and spend ~$5k more, I'd get a 10k MQM/RDM boost, in addition to some prorated annual fee refund, correct? Would I then get a plat companion cert on my current renewal date (~April?) or would that reset to 12 months from the date of downgrade?
Don't downgrade if you have never held the platinum. You will waive the ability to forever get a sign up bonus. If you've had platinum before, disregard.

Yes, your spend will carry over beyond the earned threshold (1st 30k reserve) and will count towards MQM boost #1 of the platinum. I have never done it in the reserve to platinum order personally, but others have reported back successfully and it follows the logic of how Amex treats the account post transition in product.

You'll receive 1/12th of the reserve annual fee per month refunded and the opposite will be charged for the platinum for the remaining months at 1/12 of its annual fee.

You will get the certificate in your delta wallet about 24-48 hours before the cycle closes. It will be reflective of the card type you hold at that moment.

IMHO, I would make a push for the second reserve boost (prepay taxes? Overpay bills?) Hold the card until the reserve BOGO cert posts in your account and then downgrade/cancel. You might as well enjoy club access and that F/J BOGO.
