If you want a more beach/pool focused stay (so it feels more like vacation), check out the Hyatt Regency Mission Beach. Much more of a resort atmosphere. It's only a Category 3 at 12k points/night

If you want to be in the heart of San Diego, check out the Andaz, which is a cat 1-4. Downtown location closed to the gas lamp district, great rooftop pool
