Fare in 'R' Class Confusion - Experiences?

With the transition from 'R' class being primarily an upgrade fare class to now a dual-purpose fare class (sometimes it's an upgrade, sometimes it's paid), it seems to be creating a bit of confusion.

I posted in another thread recently about an experience with a paid 'R' class ticket posting as "R (Economy)" in someone's account on AA.com.

I myself recently flew on a JL ticket with AA segments, with the AA segments coded as R, so I was afraid the same was going to happen to me, although they actually ultimately credited as "C (Business)" on AA.com, and I received the usual 2x EQMs.

I don't see many threads about stuff like this on FT anymore, so I thought maybe I'd shake things up a bit by posting this. I realize it's a bit nuanced, but it would be interesting to hear other experiences... if there are any.
