I am not an expert of the Boston hotel market by any means, in fact I don’t travel to the United States much and I generally have modest expectations for U.S. hotels relative to other parts of the world. That said, I was positively surprised by this hotel for various reasons as outlined in my review, and I can highly recommend it. Location Since I am not a regular visitor in Boston I do not know the different parts of the city very well but I thought the location of the hotel was good by being close to the Downtown Crossing train station. From the airport we took the silver line free shuttle bus to South station which took maybe 20 minutes, and from there it was a 5-minute walk with sidewalks which was easy even with suitcases. That same bus is not free going back to the airport but nonetheless access to and from the airport was fairly smooth and cheap. Room I booked the entry level room with 15k points several months in advance and I was not sure at that time if I was going to stay there or cancel and book somewhere else. Subsequently this property was increased to 20k points per night so I knew I had a good deal at 15k points which convinced me to keep my reservation. As Hyatt Globalist I was upgraded to a junior suite on a fairly high floor. The room is almost double the size of a standard room with the entrance leading to the living room with a sofa bed, which is separated from the bedroom with a sliding door so it’s actually more akin to a standard suite rather than a junior suite which normally do not have a separate living room. The bathroom had some kind of handicapped-accessible shower and it was not my favorite but with the upgrade I was certainly not going to complain. The weak points of the room were that water pressure was quite low in the shower, the living room was somewhat dark because of the absence of window in that room, and we could hear some street noise during the night even from our high floor. Otherwise the room was in very good condition and the bed very comfortable. Dining Breakfast was definitely a strong point of the hotel. I normally much prefer breakfasts in Asia or the Middle East and I do not enjoy North American breakfasts much. Many North American hotels offer a mediocre buffet and nothing more. However at this hotel there is an extensive a la carte menu with interesting choices such as the Maine Lobster Benedict which was delicious. They also allowed us to combine the menu with the buffet and all charges were removed from our final bill which was a generous Globalist breakfast benefit. Even the buffet was above average in my opinion with fruits such as blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries, rather than only standard hotel fruits such as melon. The warm food at the buffet was quite good too, including scrambled eggs with veggies such as broccoli and different kinds of salsa available. The restaurant environment was nice and did not feel crowded and loud. Service Service at this hotel is also much better than average particularly for North American standards. First off I got contacted ahead of time by the hotel staff with a welcome e-mail and they were quick to answer my questions in advance of our stay. They asked me if I had special requests and I said no, but I mentioned that on the day of departure we had an 11pm flight so it would be nice if we could get check-out later than the standard 4pm Globalist check-out time. In that exchange of e-mails they offered me 7pm check-out even before we arrived at the hotel – this was a great gesture that we highly appreciated. In fact due to the very late check-out I thought perhaps in exchange we would not get a suite upgrade but having both was way beyond expectations. Service was also very good and friendly in the restaurant during breakfast, and all demands to other staff were always met as requested for example I asked for some printouts and they were waiting for us in the room when we checked in, and also housekeeping was done exactly at the time we asked. Overall All in all we had a very solid stay with the suite upgrade, the excellent breakfast benefit, the superior service, and a room in good condition. Boston is not a cheap city so at 20k points per night perhaps it’s not as good a deal as before but I think it’s still decent value. If running low on points I would not hesitate to pay cash to stay there again.
Throwing some shade at US hotels I see. Helpful review though!
