I have a tight connection at SFO (2hrs 10mins) from Qantas to United on Sunday at around 2pm. The Qantas flight has been a little unreliable the last few days and I’m nervous that CBP and TSA queues might cause me to miss the connection.
I understand that neither airline owes me anything here since it’s QF to UA, but does anyone know or have experience with United letting you go on a later flight if you arrive late on another carrier?

I can see there is a wide-open flight leaving an hour later, but I’d hate to change my flight only to discover I could have made the earlier departure.
I assume officially you can’t ask for a SDC if the previous flight has closed its doors?
If the UA flight has closed its door without you, UA are likely to consider you a no show. Then it gets very hard to get any value back on the ticket, depending on the ticket t&c's. What will the cost be on new walk up ticket to your destination, with any airline.
If possible change to the later flight now, and then do SDC if you can make the earlier flight.
