I cancelled my free ticket SEA-ORD-BHM cause I couldn't go and just re-used the voucher for a SEA-IAD-BGM trip coming up.
If I included that first leg on the new ticket, the price goes from about 300 to over 1100 so no, that's not an acceptable option.
