Does UA Notify Travellers of Itinerary Change?

Hey FTers,

I logged into my UA account today to check my upcoming flights and saw a glaring change to my return flight back to YYZ. Instead of flying KIX > SFO > DEN > YYZ as originally planned with a departure of 4:30 PM on Thursday 10th of October, I've been rebooked on AC taking off on 1:30 AM that day and arriving into YYZ on Friday morning. I did not receive a peep from UA either via email or phone call. Furthermore I am flying Polaris J on the itinerary.

I am frankly surprised that UA made no effort to contact me on this apparently significant schedule change. It would be one thing if my flight got moved a couple of hours but there's a big difference between a 4:30 PM departure and a 1 AM departure which throws a spanner into everything. This isn't the first time this has happened to me with UA either. A week ago, whilst checking my MP account I noticed a schedule change on my YYZ > KOA flight in December. Thankfully it was an immaterial change in the schedule (i.e. departure time moved by a couple minutes). Last year, I was flying SIN > LAX > SFO > YYZ when UA famous cancelled the SIN > LAX service. Again, no emails from UA, I only found out when checking my itinerary online.

My question for the FT community is - what am I missing here? UA has no issues sending me emails when I book flights with them or a ticket gets reissued over the phone but they seem to not care when the changes are initiated on their end. Meanwhile, AC has the courtesy of sending me an email when so little as a minute has changed on the scheduled departure.

Safe Travels,

James
