No insurance through amex with this purchase, but I'll likely use this with Air Canada for business (aka corporate rewards) who are usually great at making things go smoothly.
Pretty sure I also have free omw there on occasion as well. Omw would also be less than the discount on one of these gift cards, so it's up to your risk tolerance I guess.
