Whether the story is accurate or not, it is certainly possible. I've grown tired of worrying about it. I bought a bunch of minis and carry one with me at all times. If I encounter a wall dispenser or unsealed mini I can use mine and toss it. I just grab another one when I get home. Worst case, it's a couple hundred dollars a year but worth it to not have to worry about contamination.
