There is a fantastic restaurant that's setup as a "speakeasy" type place in the back of the bakery on the first floor, I've eaten there even when not staying at the AC. Kind of pricy but well worth it. I've also stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan, yes it's kind of dated but in Old San Juan so you can walk around that area. If it were me I was choosing between the two the AC offers more "resort" amenities, Uber is on the island these days so you can offset some of the taxi costs. Also since it's your first time take some cash as uber isn't allowed to pick-up in the airport and taxis will absolutely rape you if you run a card.
Thanks so much for the detailed input, paleales! Almost made my mind to go with AC, but it suddenly came across that AC hotel charges US$25 per night resort fee if staying on points. Is Sheraton Old SJ also charging resort/service fee on point redemption stays? Can't find any indication during checkout, but it does charge a service fee if staying on cash.
