The problem is that if I take the SIM card out then how do I access the internet? Most places that I’ve been to in China doesn’t allow free internet access unless I have a Chinese phone number. I think I need it to get a password.
Here’s the good news. The Four Points Sheraton in Shanghai that I’m currently staying at is the first hotel that I’ve been to in China that offers free wifi without any conditions! I just tested this on my wifi only iPad and here are the results. Not surprising that Google Maps doesn’t work since most Google services are blocked. Apple Maps transit direction does work! I can definitely confirm this now!!!
However, I’m not sure how this benefit me unless I get a Chinese simcard. Fortunately I’ve been to Shanghai enough to know my way around.
