I haven't rented in a while, but I was also noticing that the availability on rentalcars.com was significantly less than that on the Hertz site - e.g. I simply could not book some locations and dates that I could booking with Hertz direct. The third-party portal is awful and now that the gravy train of miles is largely gone I usually book direct.
