Annoying thing is usually the agent scanning boarding passes will have to pass the passport to another agent (sometimes at another counter), and after they are done they will wait for the original agent to be free to give the passport back to them, before coming back to me.

Clearly a first world problem and not a disaster, but still you're just standing there for a couple of mins while I'm not even sure what they're checking.
