Thank you for your detailed post and letting me know how you feel that many 'things' in Switzerland have changed to the worse recently.
I don't disagree, that crimes in Switzerland are a problem that we face too.
Compared with the rest of the western world we notice in Switzerland (yearly statistic of the federal juristic departement, headed by Minister = Bundesrat Leuenberger), that for many years Switzerland probably even leads (compared with the number of inhabitants) the figure for
white collar crimes (even more so, Mr. Leuenberger says, if they would include suspected but difficult to proof white collar crimes).
On the other side, our yearly rate of detected and reported to the police thefts and murders (including attempts to murder) compares favorable to every other country.
Unique airport (being officially retired for 2 years now, I got a temporary job consulting them for 3 months recently, had nothing to do with theft or crimes there, but with logistics and economics for delivering beverages and food to all of their outlets and catering companies) I remember that thefts reported to the police at Zürich airport did decrease a lot (comparison 2003 with preceding years), but that's probably more due with a decrease of passengers after Swissair's bankruptcy than with a general improvement of the situation. If I rember correcty, reported thefts in 2003 on and in Unique Zürich airport were about 400/year = just > 1 per day (I don't know how that figure compares with other airports worldwide).
Any unobserved 'object' at any airport, is not only a risk to be stolen, but is generally against any security policy ...
One thing that I disagree with you is, that bad things and experiences should not be reported, made public and authorities and management involved should not be confronted directly. How else can we make things change to the better, or stop to get even worse? I am surprised, that you still want to frequent a hotel that has been treating you the way you report.
Regarding SWISS, I myself stopped buying paid tickets from them (Swissair that was at that time), many years ago, because of a family issue we had with them.
I very much hope, that future trips to 'my' country will be more pleasant. Please don't hesitate to contact me, if you need any help here - I also would be pleased if I can invite you to a 'side-car' (my favorite drink at the Kronenhalle Bar, a drink I had already the pleasure to share with > 300 FlyerTalkers so far). My cellular phone number (if calling from anywhere in Switzerland) is 079-6237605. My email address
