Only 3 Poached Lobster starters on a 14 F BA92 ( YYZ-LHR) on Sun
Hi,
Sorry title should of course be BA 92! for the inbound Toronto-London flight
A genuine First world first class problem!
My mother and I flew back from Toronto on BA 92 (1830) on Sunday ( seat 1k on G-VIIK) after a wonderful week in Toronto and Niagara Falls ( with a trip to Niagara on the lake)
The F starter menu was
Duck and Pork Terrine
Poached lobster
Potato and Leek soup
Mixed salad
I chose the lobster but shortly after the cabin crew came back and said the lobster was all out. I chose the soup which came in a china jar and was a little small portion wise and was lukewarm and the cream in it was cool so made the soup colder. I asked about the lobster being popular later and was told only 3 were loaded .
A few brief comments on my F experience ( booked in the 2 for 2019 sale)
BA 99 ( 1700 ) LHR-Toronto Sat 21st Sep ( 1k)
First Check In and Security- Quick and efficient. No one in front of us at security
CCR: ( mentioned in the CCR lounge thread): Busy but efficient service ( dining room service was good)
CCR afternoon tea: Excellent
Boarding; Gate A10 ( bus!!) to stands beyond the C Gates then had to reverse 10 yards by the refuellers as another bus was in front
Pre departure drinks: Only 1 glass of champage ( then delayed due to discrepancy in pax numbers so we got boarding is complete twice by 1 hour) -no other drink service was offered and the cabin was warm but water bottles distributed later
On board lunch: Good ( wine was good, ice cream was softer than expected and no sparkling water delivered during the meal ( I had a diet coke earlier). The soup was at a better tempreature than on the inbound.
CSD came round for a welcome chat after take off
No slippers ( amenity kit and pjs)
IFE: Reasonable and good quality (Avengers Endgame)
Afternoon tea: Nice cutlery stand ( had the sandwiches ,cakes and scones and skipped the cold cuts as I was stuffed full)
Arrival : Despite the hour departure delay due to a rapid 6hr 45min flight we landed about 20mins late
Disembarkatiion : Used door 2l and the crew held back CW pax for us.
Immigration: A longish walk to immigration but the passort machines were very efficient ( no waiting) and priority baggage worked well ( bags were amongst the first out with a little wait)
Taxi: $56 to Hilton Toronto Downtown ( some congestion around the expressway by York street)
Sunday 29th July BA 92 ( 1830) Toronto YYZ to LHR ( G-VIIK)
Checkin opens around 1530 ( we arrived at 1550 due to congestion around Rogers stadium ( Blue jays game)
F check in was quick and efficent (and was able to leave bags at the F counter- other pax seemed to have to take bags to the drop off counter
Fast trak security (American express sponsored) line was quick ( less than 5 mins)
Lounge: separate plaza premium lounge ( with BA sign outside) with Business to the left and F/Gold to the right: Good dining menu and good service at the start ( they did give us duck rather than cod but the duck was fine) -gets packed around 5pm. Business rammed also. AF/KLM lounge next door quieter. Only 2 lifts with no stairs
Boarding: Cramped area with a priority line for zones 123 only so we have to navigate around the seating area.
CSD escorted us to our seats ( then no further meetings) Wifi onboard announced.
Pre departure drinks: Only 1 glass of champagne
Slippers provided also
Quick flight time ( 6 hrs 20mins)
Main course of Fish was good ( and cheesecake dessert was good)
Desert wine came with 2 icecubes in it.
Bed made down on request after meal ( had to ask for a bottle of water)
IFE reasonable ( poor selection of music though IMO)
Asked to be woken for breakfast ( had to have the pancakes!) and was woken about 1 hour prior to landing with oj, a fruit plate, croissant and pancakes and coffee) Pancakes were very good but we hit a little chop that was enough to cause the coffee to swish over the edge onto the saucer, The crew took the saucer away and brought a clean one ( had a similar experience on JL F but after the seatbelt sign was off the crew came with fresh coffee) Coffee was good but lukewarm.Service finished with 40mins to go
My mother had a less satisfactory experience ( not being woken for breakfast despite asking the crew and got sparkling water rather than a mocktail) but only found out about this at about T-25 ( she did not make a fuss -might have been a misunderstanding between her and the crew but I would have said something if I had known)
10 min holding so we landed about 20mins ahead of schedule ( at B48? so a long walk to the terminal)
Only one transit was working and was packed so walk from the B gates to A gates ( mum's achilles begining to hurt)
Went landside via egates then first wing. Large queues at F security with both lanes working ( 650am -Monday rush hour)
CCR Service: seemed younger staff and less efficient service than on the outbound ( had to go to the bar to order food and drink but was delivered quickly and the salmon and scrambled eggs were good)
The CE service up to EDI was mixed ( crew seemed to be slower than other flights as it took up to Manchester to be served the hot breakfast and it seemed like only a few mnutes before crew came round to take them away with no offers of asking if you needed anything else)
Overall , F on the 777 is better than CW. the seat was comfortable, cabin was clean, the pjs are nice ( miss the F speedbird marque logo from the old pjs), the GBP 150 supplement from CW each way is good value, the short night flight is a little short to fully enjoy F ( but probably a better short sleep than a 777 CW ) , nice cutlery and reasonable service ( could have been better)
I have had better F service on other flights but this one was ok. ( should F only be ok? I'm not sure)
Regards
