We left FLL on a flight back to YYZ on Saturday, August 14th, which was the day after hurricane Charley devastated the west coast and central Florida. On that day, Charlie was moving up the east coast from Georgia to the Carolinas. Taking off from FLL, we were headed first easterly over the ocean, then turned about 135 degrees to the northwest to avoid the storm. This was not the usual track for the northbound flights, as they usually follow the coast up to the Carolinas before turning inland towards Toronto. There were high clouds for most of the flight, and still a bit more bumps then usual, but we had swung wide to avoid most of Charlie's turbulance.
