I just spent 5 nights at this hotel. Made a reward booking (point saver at 32.5K pts/night) with 5th night free. I was a little worried based on some of the reviews in this thread, but I was committed to Danang due to the two CX tickets I bought New Year’s Eve. I spent one night at the Four Points Danang two weeks ago and even though it was a great hotel and tremendous value for a cat 2, I couldn’t see myself spending the better part of a week there.

I’m glad I decided to stick with the Sheraton Grand. The stay has been nothing short of fabulous. Other than a bit of drizzle on the day I arrived, the weather has been sunny and 30-31C every day since I’ve been here. The first couple of days, the ocean was rather ferocious, but I ventured in on the third day. (I was the only one in the water and I didn’t appreciate having one of the hotel staff standing on shore blowing his whistle at me every time I strayed out of the area he felt I should be in.) The water was warm and the sand was soft and easy on the feet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get deep for a long way out, so swimming is kind of difficult. It was still enjoyable if you like oceans dips. Alternatively, as others have described, the hotel pool is huge and there are lots of chairs and umbrellas. Service at the pool is excellent and drinks are very reasonably priced at 148K-198K VND ($6-8) less 20% discount for Plats and higher. I appreciated that there was a 5 gal jug of water at the pool and a cooler full of ice. I always travel with an insulated mug so the staff was happy to fill my cup or they will bring you a glass of water if you prefer.

The beach is very clean in front of the hotel but is full of trash if you walk away from the hotel. I did beach walks every morning and was astounded at the amount of plastic, ropes, assorted garbage and number of shoes/sandals washing up on the shore. There was even a dead piglet on the shore.

The hotel has an odd décor for a beach resort (opulent chandeliers and curving staircases) but I wouldn’t discount it for that. I didn’t see the wear and tear that other posters described. I was upgraded to a Deluxe ocean front corner suite (about 1000 sq ft) with 3 balconies (2 in the living room, 1 in the bedroom). One of my living room balconies faced the ocean (even though the La Plage bar/restaurant was right in front of me). The other two balconies faced the vacant lot to the north of the property. Hotel uses mobile key which I quite liked as I didn’t have to keep my key card with me. Early check-in and late check-out were cheerily granted. The Resort Mgr came over to greet me during my check-in which was a nice gesture. I found the staff throughout the hotel to be fantastic. My welcome gift was a bowl of fruit and a box of desserts.

I had to give up my 1000 pt welcome amenity for the buffet breakfast. This being Vietnam, most of the dishes had meat or at least fish sauce in them. The restaurant mgr was waiting for me the first day and said they would be happy to make vegetarian dishes for me which they have done every day. Food was excellent. The breakfast selection wasn’t as huge as at the JW Emerald Bay but was still ample.

Happy hour is from 5:30-7:00 in La Plage bar/restaurant and Platinums and above get 2 free drinks each for up to 2 people/room. No snacks though other than a small bowl of peanuts. I had dinner here every night. I absolutely loved the atmosphere at La Plage. Open air with a large terrace with comfy chairs, palm trees swaying in the breeze, listening to the waves breaking on the shore and soft music playing in the background. Only issue is I was stung around the ankles by some microscopic insects the first night, so the staff brought me bug spray and that took care of the problem. (My body chemistry seems to attract insects! I had same issue at Sheraton Lombok where I was the only one getting bitten.)

I was hoping to make use of the spa while here, but the prices were outrageous (for Vietnam). The Resort Mgr had given me some 600K VND discount coupons for the spa (for treatments of 60+ minutes), but the cheapest 60 min massage was 2400K VND ($103)! They had a special at the spa as well where you could book 2 treatments and get the 3rd free, but that would still be 1600K VND ($69)/massage which is more than what my RMT charges in Toronto! By comparison, the Four Points Danang has a spa and 60 min massages are offered at 980K VND less 20% Plat discount (or about $34).

Grab from the airport cost $8-9.

Overall, a great stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
