We arrive 8:30pm Monday evening, and departure is 6:30pm Sunday evening. We are staying at Royal Plaza Hotel on Kowloon side. I figured 3 hours will give us plenty of time to pass through boarding pass checks (because of the protest), security, customs, and luggage check-in. We typically just hang out at the lounge until boarding since we can shower, eat, and relax before the long flight home. I just thought it might be better to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare given all the additional security checkpoints heading into the airport now.
You can do in-town check-in on the way out and take the train without lugging your luggage around.
Also, if you're lugging your luggage through the airport, the airport express literally picks up from the arrival hall, and the taxi stand in both Kowloon and HK station is directly across from the train arrival platform. You're looking at maybe 200m of extra distance dragging your luggage from taking the train.
Would strongly consider train + taxi vs. a car service from the airport.
