One of the problems with carbon neutrality is that it often is only to one single aspect. People get criticized for engaging in a potentially environmentally-unfriendly activity. To me, that's not really fair to criticize one aspect of a person. Rather, you should look at their entire life before deciding they are bad for the environment.
Example: I work from home and do not own a car. I literally walk everywhere (including the grocery store) or I take public transportation. I've worked from home for over a decade and been carless for about 8 years.
Let's say I decide to take a fun but completely unnecessary trip for an event/show/concert in a city 2,000 miles away. (I've actually done that.) Environmentalists might say that's horrible. But, shouldn't I get credit for not driving 40 miles to/from work every day like some people do? Haven't I earned a little environmental karma that I can cash in every once in awhile?
