we have AS/BA SEA-LAS-LHR-JNB outbound, but still need to decide if it's worth paying BA even more than we already have in order to select seats on the 744s

I totally agree on BA, the lower surcharges are a little more palatable but no free seat selection in J still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. For CX, are you able to book J & PE on the same flight using the PE as a placeholder for a J that most probably will open up later?
