Executive Club status freeze for medical reasons?

Afternoon, folks.

I'm aware BA has a scheme for new parents to let them freeze their EC status for a year due to the reduced travel that implies, and I was wondering if they had a similar scheme (or would be able to bend the rules a bit) for people who need to halt travel for medical reasons?

A few months ago I was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney disease (at the tender young age of 28...), meaning I'll eventually need a kidney transplant. If all goes well and one of my potential living donors are a match, the operation will probably happen sometime early next year. I've been advised this means I'll have to halt travel abroad for up to a year, and it so happens that early next year is the start of my membership year (February).

I'm possibly just on track to reach Gold for the first time ever; having been Silver the last two years, and it'd be an awful waste if I didn't manage to make any use of that before it lapsed.

Has anyone had experience with BA extending their EC status on similar compassionate grounds, or is this highly unlikely?

Any advice or similar personal experiences appreciated!
