I usually fly between Hong Kong and Sydney once every quarter given my freight forwarding business between these two countries, I fly on both Qantas and Cathay Pacific and I have to admit that The Wing/The Pier are far superior to that of Qantas/British Airways lounges at HKIA.

However, I do not agree on merging the two lounges as this would simply create a congestion at Cathay Pacific lounge. It is already crowded at The Wing/The Pier lounges during peak hours so we do not want the airlines in oneworld to change to rules, especially to Silver Level Marco Polo Club members (oneworld Ruby Level who receive lounge access when flying on Cathay Pacific flights).

Yes, it is true that once a customer finds themselves at Cathay Pacific lounges at HKIA, the next thought that goes into their mind is to fly with the airline. I personally prefer Cathay Pacific over Qantas given its reputation and excellent in customer service, safety and over quality of its product.

As for the departure gates, the Qantas/British Airways lounges are close to their gates whereas The Wing/The Pier are closer to Cathay Pacific flights. I usually use Cathay Pacific's The Wing when I travel with Qantas but do allow myself the extra time to walk to the Qantas departure gates as it can be abit of a walk but as an Emerald card member with oneworld, I utilise Cathay Pacific's First Class lounge which has a closer entry/exit to Qantas gates.

Overall, Qantas and Cathay Pacific have an excellent product from Hong Kong but if I had to choose one, it would definitely be Cathay Pacific.
