If this could be a problem I'd recommend the Renaissance nearby which is a beautiful and much smaller hotel, the rates between those two are usually very similar.
The W is on the far end of the crescent on the palm and with no traffic you're looking at minimum 10-12 minutes just to get out of the palm. If there is some traffic it could easily take twice as long. If you plan to do a lot of city activities or commute to Downtown area frequently then the location could be problematic. That said, the hotel is absolutely stunning, rooms are spacious and beautifully designed (though definitely relaxation rather than work oriented, no desks etc.), Akira Back is one of the nicest asian restaurants in town, the pool and beach area is amazing and very private and the view of Marina is breathtaking especially in evening time.
All really depends on what you are coming for, if it's just holidays where you want to relax and maye take a trip to the city once or twice per day then you can't really go wrong with the W, especially if access to pool/beach is a factor.
Thank you very much, very helpful.
i’m leaning toward W then. This is a pure leisure trip and we
don’t care about lounge access. Just want to relax, explore city a bit, before heading to Al Maha.
