Long-time reader first-time poster:

Same problem. I pre-ordered a new iPhone, which has now shipped, and it posted as "Online Transaction: N" and 1% cash back, despite the expected merchant name "APPLE ONLINE STORE" and MCC of Electronics Store. I ordered using apple.com (on desktop) and I believe I had already set this CC (Visa) as the payment method on my Apple ID and/or Apple Store account, so I just chose it during checkout. (So not Apple Pay.)

Called BoA and they said they wouldn't do anything; that's just how it posted and that's it. I did point out that they list apple.com (iTunes and Store) as an example merchant under the Online Shopping category. The rep tried to convince me that the MCC was the issue, which is most likely wrong.

Called Apple and they thought it was bizarre; I convinced them to open a case internally with (maybe) whoever deals with their payment backend, but I dunno if that's going anywhere.

I suppose I should try the BoA Preferred Rewards line too?

I need to order some more Apple stuff in a few months and it would be really nice to get 3% on it...
