The only issue with the later flights is, personally, I find they are harder to deal with jet lag. The earlier services (18:00-19:30 approx) are easier for me. That being said, at these times you'll be caught up in the daily mess that JFK becomes. The later flights (e.g. 23:00) have much quicker taxi times.

It is all of 175m walk from the top of the TSA escalator to the entrance of the CCR. Turn left at the top of the escalator, through the duty free shop, passed the restaurants, turn left then the CCR entrance is at the end of the gate area. Hardly a schlep!

I disagree - I find the East Coast day flights an utter waste of a day - but yes they can help with jetlag.

I also do not agree that they overnights are too short to get a decent sleep - the flights are on average about 6hrs 30mins flying time (of course, some can be exceptionally shorter based on winds). Accounting for the 20mins to landing call that you must be in upright position, you can easily get 6hrs sleep if you prepare correctly. If I get 6hrs sleep on the ground, I am happy so there is no discernible difference for me.
