It looks like CX cancelled the CMB-HKG flight on my (+1) date and moved it to the same date of my MLE-CMB flight, but earlier in the day!!! My route, in chronological order, now looks like

CMB-HKG 00:55-08:40 (Biz on CX)
MLE-CMB 20:45-22:40 (Biz on UL)
HKG-LAX (+1) 16:35-13:05 (F on CX; wife on separate F flight same day)

I called CX and they said I have to call AA. Called AA (on the phone now) and they are looking for any other availability to get me from MLE-HKG in time for our F flights. Has anyone ever had this happen where a mid flight got cancelled and rebooked to a time that throws off the whole line of flights?

If I HUCA with CX enough times, is it possible to get someone that can help me, or am I stuck with what AA can do on their end (i.e., limited to whatever availability the AA agents can find)?

I know it is highly unlikely, but is there any way I can get CX to get my on some MLE-[x]-HKG flight that may not have business availability for rewards because they cancelled my original flights? Or with awards is it basically a "too bad," response?
Yes, this is very common with schedule changes, the computers will often auto-rebook you to an impossible itinerary like this. You have to call to get it straightened out, as you're doing.

Since this is an AA award, AA will ultimately have to sort it out. So don't waste any more time calling CX.

When you call AA, you need to push for the agent to work with their oneworld/CX liaison to open up space on whatever CX flight works the best now. Do your homework beforehand and ask specifically for that, I would not rely on the AA agent to come up with a better option.

Success will depend on finding a good agent who knows how to go above and beyond in working with the liaison, not just looking for whatever award space is available now from MLE-HKG. Ultimately it's up to CX to open up space, AA can't force anything.
