As the hotel was *very* full, I wasn't expecting any sort of upgrade, and, at check-in, we were put into the base room that we booked. They had the rollaway already set up for us, and quite honestly, there was plenty of room for it, and the room didn't feel too cramped as a result of it being there.

The young lady who checked us it (who, BTW, spoke perfect English with a US west coast accent despite being Japanese--apparently she went to school in the US), apologized profusely that, as a Titanium, they did not have an upgraded room for us. However, she checked as was able to secure us an upgraded room, although it wouldn't be ready for a couple more hours. IIRC, the upgraded room wasn't really much bigger (don't know what category it was considered), but we now at least had a nice river view instead of a city view (which overlooked a small graveyard--which was actually kinda cool). The rollaway fit quite nicely in the new room as well, again without cramping us at all.

Based on my experience, personally I wouldn't waste the ¥15K (almost US$140) on securing an upgrade, unless spending an extra $320 isn't a big deal for you. Even if we had been stuck with the base room, it was still quite comfortable with a rollaway in it.

All in all, the RC Kyoto is a beautiful, amazing hotel with impeccable service. One way or another, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful stay. Enjoy!
Were you charged separately for the rollaway bed for your child?
