Just to give my experience - we've done this three times before where I was in J, and wife was in Y with my daughter. Flight attendant allowed us to have one switch, and one switch only during the entire trip when the flight is not departing for the US. For US-bound flights, as someone noted above, you cannot cross into an unpaid cabin per law, so they do not allow it.
