Oh good grief, that tired line. If they’re selling first class fares, that’s absolutely fair game. If they’re selling cash upgrades for cheap and leaving upgrade certificates on the waitlist, they’re weakening an already very weak elite status program. It’s a business relationship, and if they choose to deliver less value, I’ll continue to choose to book other carriers when I have a choice. It seems odd to me that they’re choosing, in this and other ways, to stick a thumb in the eyes of their most frequent customers exactly when we’re getting more opportunities to book away, but it’s their business and their choice.
