i doubt a baggage claim would be successful although it couldn’t hurt to try.
Usually a late check in with luggage will result in a different claim check with disclaimers of possibly not making it and no delivery — the baggage is accepted with limitations. Long time since I did that but I do remember being relieved to see my suitcase.
