It's all about choices and personal responsibility and the lack of linkage. Nothing here suggests that the bag was damaged because it was delayed and nothing here suggests that DL damaged the bag.
I'm not suggesting that the bag was damaged because of the delay. I'm just saying that by explaining what happened they may be a bit more lenient. Delta is always extremely understanding in my experience with these types of things.
