This differs from my experience. On my Net Direct (prepaid, booked on the HHonors website) rate at the Doubletree Rohnert Park mentioned above, the charge hit my credit card just a few days after booking -- which was a couple weeks BEFORE the stay.
I do a lot of international Hiltons and very few domestic ones and all my bookings are last minute (save some award bookings). Perhaps that is why there appeared to be a difference.
