I highly recommend doing the complimentary hike up Mt. Daimonji! It was wonderful, one of our favorite parts of the trip. About two hours roundtrip and the sunset views are stunning. We could even see Osaka on the day we went! I also recommend asking someone to take you around and do the art tour of the hotel - my husband and I very much enjoyed that.
