I'll share your embarrassment then as I always stumble around trying to remember how to do it. Log in on BA.com and then try this link:

I tick agreement then hit "Transfer Avios for free" - you should then be taken to a page where you can select the amount, the recipient (only from F&F list) and add a message.

I get the free transfer as GCH, other status levels may incur charges.

EDIT: Beaten to it, and with a GB version too
