I went. I got 3G everywhere but it was more than fast enough. Didn't really notice a difference between Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo and besides the "3G" marker. Definitely worth it since I was getting reception in the countryside and definitely needed to call Grab in the cities. And for the price, its basically the same as buying a SIM there but you got the convenience.
Thank you - I am back and only saw 3G as my fastest technology (on different carriers) in Vietnam from HCMC/Saigon to Hanoi. It seemed like decent performance for what I needed to do most of the time. Supposedly there is a 4G LTE network but we are not getting allowed to roam on it. Also getting around with Google Maps and Grab definitely required having some mobile coverage whether roaming or a tourist SIM card.
