Just following up as I stayed at the Courtyard Sha Tin last week. Beautiful hotel, and reception staff were top-notch and extremely gracious, with 3 of them introducing themselves by name and one offering to try to recoup some points back from Bonvoy since I checked out after 6 nights on a 7-night travel package (she said she could try to exchange it for a 6-night package, which I'm not sure even exists, and after a little discussion I said not to bother; I've gotten good value from this one). Plenty of buses nearby to many parts of the city, plus of course the MTR, and the shuttle was amazingly punctual (except one 9am departure when it didn't come, but the upshot was that a staff member gave me a helpful list of bus routes, which led me to discover parts of the city I hadn't explored before). The buffet restaurant reopened while I was there, and my friend and I tried it for dinner -- I had no idea it was a serious buffet, with chilled half-lobsters, crab legs, sashimi, and lots of great hot and cold dishes. HK$392 (plus 10% service charge) after guests' 20% discount, though I thought the HK$59 "drink package" per person for one soft drink each was a bit cheeky.
And yes, the Korean barbecue nearby is fantastic -- there are two; we went to Hon Wo and were impressed. Great variety and very clean!
And to keep this vaguely on-topic, I briefly entered the Ovolo Southside as well. There was some discouraging construction around it and the rooftop was closed for a private event, but it did look like a nice midrange boutique hotel as expected. I'd try it sometime if I wanted to be in the area but I don't think I'd go out of my way for it. Based on what I saw I'm glad I went with the Courtyard, so thanks to several of you for swaying me in that direction.
Edit a week later: I see that the Courtyard's restaurant DCC'd me when I clearly told them not to. Serious black mark.
