I admit I am confused about this also. There are threads posters have stated they added legs after the fact to award tickets. I realize that's a different scenario than adding a revenue ticket to an award ticket. But even after reading many threads, I'm still not certain when or how the additions can be made. It sounds like they can be added to the same PNR after the initial purchase, at least in some situations??? (My question is general to AA and AA partners / associates -- I realize it wouldn't work under an AF combination.)
Yeah I know what you mean - it is confusing indeed. It MAY be possible to add a revenue segment to an already ticketed award, but personally I wouldn't risk it. Gary Leff has also posted something to that effect (that it is possible even after the award is booked). Have only had to do this a few times but I've made sure to ticket them both together just to avoid any risk of it going wrong.
