Then there seemed to be an issue with the boarding steps and we were told to walk back along the entire upper deck (I had just sort of gotten midway the Y cabin), down the stairs behind the J galley and down boarding steps at the back of the aircraft. All this time the Y passengers were sitting there staring at the 'royalty' moving up and down 'their' cabin. I found it slightly embarrassing....

The point is to explain that there are other ways to let J off before J.
Happened recently on the morning LGW flight which arrived at one on the B gates which doesn't have upstairs jetty. There was some half hearted effort to keep upstairs economy passengers in the front cabin out the way to let J disembark. It didn't work...and I didn't see anyone in J getting too stressed about the extra 2 mins delay.
