The Tamarind is in excellent location in the old city, however still quiet since it's a bit backwards from the main roads; it has a nice pool (however not very big and not very deep) and good restaurant. The rooms are nice and quite large - make you feel like in a small house. But be sure to book a deluxe room - which are in the first floors of the buildings and providing you with a small balcony or patio. They're much lighter than the standard rooms which are on the ground floors turning them quite dark inside (small windows, bad view) and no private area outside. Paid around 45 USD something via hoteltravel.com for a standard room. However, I felt the service level in the Tamarind was not as high as elsewhere in Thailand.
