Schengen immigration at BRU is brutal. For connecting in Europe I would choose LH or LX 100 times out of 100 over SN.

For O/D traffic, yes of course you end up at the same customs. I prefer to connect in YYZ because it is much better connected by air to YOW than YUL, so unless I am already in YUL for business this is good news for me personally since I do fly to BRU periodically and I'd prefer to be on AC versus SN. Other people may have different preferences obviously.
