If you book at hilton.com (but not at any third-party site), you'll be eligible for all the status-based perks and you'll earn points, miles, etc.

And AFAIK, Starwood treats this pretty much the same - even pre-paid stays booked at their own site earn points and perks, but not so if booked elsewhere.
